Problem Description

The integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC) needs to be configured on a V10000 Appliance.

If it has not been configured, a "Page cannot be displayed" message might be received when trying to open the iDRAC IP URL.

Resolution

The following appliances can be ordered with an iDRAC that includes a dedicated local area network (LAN) port:
  • V10000 G1
  • V10000 G2
  • V10000 G3
  • V10000 G4
Follow the instructions below to set up the iDRAC on a V10000 appliance:
  1. Attach a monitor and keyboard to the V10000 Appliance.
  2. Turn on the appliance and monitor the boot messages.
  3. When the message “Press for Remote Access Setup within 5 sec” appears, press F2 or Ctrl+E to enter the iDRAC configuration interface.
  4. Press the Down Arrow key to select Reset to Default, and then press Enter.
  5. At the warning, press Enter to select YES (Continue).
  6. Press the Up Arrow or Down Arrow keys to select the following:
    1. Select LAN Parameters, and then press Enter.
      1. Select IPv4 Address Source, and then press Enter to select Static.
      2. Select IPv4 Address, and then type the IP address of your server.
      3. Select Subnet Mask, and then type a corresponding Subnet Mask.
      4. Select Default gateway, and then type the IP address of your server.
  7. Press the Up Arrow or Down Arrow keys to select the following:
    1. Select LAN User Configuration, and then press Enter.
      1. Select Account Access, and then press Enter to select Enabled.
      2. Select IPMI LAN Privilege, and then press Enter to select Admin.
      3. Select Account User Name, and then press Enter to select admin.
      4. Select Password, and then press Enter to select admin.
      5. Select Confirm Password, and then press Enter to select admin.
  8. Verify Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) over LAN is On.
Note This allows communication to the iDRAC interface.
  1. Press ESC to exit. Choose Save Changes and exit.
  2. Open https://DRAC_IP>:/ in Internet Explorer.
When the IP address is configured, you can open https://DRAC_IP>:/ and access the iDRAC console.

If a Certificate error warning message is received:
  1. Click the Certificate error warning message and install the certificate.
  2. Bypass the Certificate error warning by using Google Chrome or Internet Explorer.
Administrator credentials might be needed to install the ActiveX control for Console access and virtual media.

If the ActiveX controls do not install, add https://DRAC_IP>:/ to the browser trusted sites and set the security level to medium-low.

The browser pop-up blocker may need to be disabled for https://DRAC_IP>:/.

iDRAC version 1.8 works only with BIOS versions 6.0 or higher.

If the server cannot be rebooted to configure the DRAC:
  1. Connect to the V10000 iDRAC port from a Windows box on the same switch.
  2. Set the Windows box to a 192.168.1.x/24 network.
  3. Access the iDRAC via https://192.168.1.1 in Internet Explorer.
  4. The default credential and password are: admin/admin.
