Problem Description

I cannot install the Websense Log Server service. An ODBC error is displayed. The error reads:

"com.websense.installer.execption.WsCreationDBException:
Failed to generate the ODBC connection for the database."

Resolution

Perform the following steps if the Websense Log Server service failed to install with error:
  1. Uninstall the Websense Log Server service.
    1. Open the Forcepoint Setup for your version. If one is not on the server, download a new copy from our Support Downloads.
    2. Click Remove next to Web Security.
    3. Select Log Server.
    4. Click Next through the prompts, then Finished when complete.
  1. Restart  the server.
  2. Delete the ODBC connection created during the failed install, possibly called wslogdb70.
  • Start > All Programs > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Data Sources (ODBC). (may be ODBC 32 or 64 bit depending on version)
  • The ODBC Data Source Administrator opens. System DSN tab > wslogdb70
  • Click the Remove button.
  1. Create a new SQL user account for Forcepoint. For instructions, see Microsoft’s article Create a Database User.
  2. Install the Websense Log Server service using the new SQL user account.
    1. Open the Forcepoint Setup file
    2. Click Modify next to Web Security.
    3. Select Log Server.
    4. Click Next through the prompts, then Finished when complete.

For additional information on updating the ODBC connection, see How to update the ODBC and the Log Server connection.
