Problem Description

This article explains how to enable the Log Server backup to include log data.

Resolution

The Log Server backup always includes the Log Server configuration files and current Log Server certificate. By default, log data is not included in the Log Server backup. You can choose whether log data is included when creating the backup or the backup task.

NOTE: The backup file is saved under <Installation Directory>/backups/.

Use the following steps to enable the Log Server backup to include log data:

  1. Select File > System Tools > Backup.
  2. Select the target Log Server(s).
  3. Select Back up Log Files.
NOTE: To disable log files from being included in the backup, deselect Back up Log Files.
Alternatively:

  1. Right-click the Log server element and select Backup.
  2. Select Back up Log Files.
NOTE: To disable log files from being included in the backup, deselect Back up Log Files.

NOTE: It is generally not needed or recommended to include log data in the Log Server backup file. Log data can be backed up separately and also restored by copying the backed up log data into the Log Storage directories on the Log Server.

Solution

To create a backup task to back up several Log Server configurations at once:
  1. Select Administration and expand Tasks.
  2. Right-click Definition and select New > Backup Task.
  3. Name the task, and select the target Log Server(s).
  4. If you want to include log data in the backup task, select Back up Log Files.
NOTE: To disable log files from being included in the backup task, deselect Back up Log Files.
  5. Save the task.
After the task Definition is completed, you can assign a schedule for it or use it manually.
