Important Seat Count for Content Gateway, when exceeded, does not result in a filtering problem. See Hard Subscription Enforcement Removed

This requires a Windows server with a Websense component installed. The ConsoleClient utility is available after installing any Websense Web Security components.

Problem Description

How do I check the subscription level or seat count on my V Series appliance?

This information is available using the SubscriptionTracker option within the ConsoleClient utility. A list is generated showing all unique IP addresses encountered by Filtering Service since midnight. Each IP address listed represents a single subscription. The current subscriptions level equals the total IPs shown.

This method does not work for versions 8.3-8.5, but does work for 8.2 and prior. If needing to pull information from the appliance via ConsoleClient, use DiagClient instead (see How to use DiagClient to verify the subscription count from Filtering Service on an appliance) , or raise a case with Technical Support to access the ConsoleClient version via root access in the appliance.

To open troubleshooting ports on an appliance:

In 8.2 and prior with Appliance Manager:

  1. Log on to the Appliance Manager.
  2. Go to Administration > Toolbox > Technical Support tools > Troubleshooting ports.
  3. Mark the Enable troubleshooting ports check box.
  4. Save your changes.

From your Windows server, perform the following steps:
  1. From a command prompt, navigate to the \Websense\Web Security\bin directory.
  2. Enter the following commands:

ConsoleClient <IP address> 15869

Note: The <IP address> is the V Series 'C' interface.

      3.   Once the utility opens, select the following options:
            a.   For PrintSelf, enter: 2
            b.   For Dump to Local File, enter: 1
            c.   For level, enter: 3
            d.   For file name, enter: Count.txt
            e.   For Subscription Tracker, enter: 16
f:    To close the utility, enter: Q
       4.  To review the subscription level, open the output file Count.txt.
A file called Count.txt is generated in the \Websense\Web Security\bin directory.
